The Dabbling Author Bree Vanderland

THE DABBLING AUTHOR
BREE VANDERLAND

Bree Vanderland has always been an inspiration to me. She has her foot in almost all corners of the indie world. From authors against bulling to pages dedicated to helping fellow author, she is one of a kind. She is the definition of indie. Making her own covers, formatting her own books, and helping out in a publishing house, it's amazing how this woman can even stand at the end of the day. She is there to lend a helping hand to fellow author when they need. If you are ever in need of an editor you can call upon her to.
Hints the name The Dabbling Author.

1. What is your passion in life?

I would say that my passion in life is my youngest sister. She keeps me on my toes and watching her grow up... I love taking care of her and making sure that she comes first. Patience is definitely a virtue that is needed when dealing with her. Other than that, I would say writing and music comes next. I love writing and playing music, ultimately entertaining other people.

2. How did you get into publishing?

I honestly didn't even think about it at first. I wrote down a novella story idea that I had and it was something that I wanted to finish for myself above all. It wasn't until after I finished writing it that I took Cameo Renae's advice on getting cover art and getting it published. After that, i just seemed to extend into everything as the few years went by. I published more books and stories and I love every second of it!

3. Is it hard keeping up with everything you do?

Yes and no. I have and know amazing people that help me along the way like Kate Marie Robbins, Zara Elise Thelms, and Russell Revis. Without them, it would be hard, but with them by my side (figuratively speaking), I can do anything!

4.Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

Anne Rice and Stephen King are my biggest inspirations as far as writing goes. I love all their books and they're amazing. I hope to be a writer like them some day! P.S. I have a signed copy of Prince Lestat that I absolutely love!

5. Has becoming a writer always been your dream?

Honestly, no. It didn't cross my mind for the longest time. I always thought I would go to college and become a music teacher! It's still a part of my goals though!

6. Do you or have you ever written poetry?

I've attempted, but I'll be honest and say that I haven't quite got the skills for it!

7. What was the reason you got into publishing?

It was to share my stories. I have so many ideas in my head, but not enough time to put them to paper! Oh well. If I manage to inspire one person on my journey then I would say that my mission is complete!

8. What were some of the tools you used to teach yourself formatting?

Kate Marie Robbins. She was a lifesaver in helping me format my first book and after that, I learned things on my own from trial and error working on Microsoft Word! I'm still learning, but I love every second.

9. Have you submitted anything to a traditional publisher?

I have not. It's a part of being nervous and a part of the fact that I love the indie author community. I love being associated with them and I love reading them.

10. What advice would you give to new authors, or those looking to get into publishing, formatting and cover art?

Never give up. You can do anything if you put your heart out there for everyone! the indie world is an amazing place to be and I can't wait to read your books!

CAMBRIA HERBERT #HATER

CAMBRIA HEBERT
#HATER

BOOK & AUTHOR INFO:

Title: #Hater
Series: The Hashtag Series #2
Author: Cambria Hebert
Release Date: January 12, 2015
Genre: New Adult College Romance
Format: Ebook and Print

Synopsis:
It started with unspoken animosity. The bitter bite of jealousy. And now its full blown hate.

It was during my first football game that I first felt the first chill of hate. I looked it right in the eyes and felt its sticky tentacles reach out for me. I’d never experienced something so cold and empty before.

The effect of that look lingered, like an unspoken promise, long after it was gone.

Becoming a couple – becoming the other half of a campus celebrity wasn’t easy. I let down walls guarding my heart and he looked past my glasses and accident prone tendencies. Romeo and I are an unlikely match, a #nerd and a jock. But we made it.

And we’re happy.

Zach doesn’t want us to be happy. He wants Romeo to pay for getting him kicked out of Omega and for the night he spent in jail. He’s going to use anything and everything he can to get his revenge. Including me.

As the weather on campus grows cold and the days become dark, revenge becomes the center of someone’s life and the happiness Romeo and I worked so hard for is threatened.

I can’t help but worry that our love is going to be overshadowed by hate.

AUTHOR BIO:

Cambria Hebert is a bestselling novelist of more than twenty books. She went to college for a bachelor’s degree, couldn’t pick a major, and ended up with a degree in cosmetology. So rest assured her characters will always have good hair.

Besides writing, Cambria loves a caramel latte, staying up late, sleeping in, and watching movies. She considers math human torture and has an irrational fear of chickens (yes, chickens). You can often find her running on the treadmill (she’d rather be eating a donut), painting her toenails (because she bites her fingernails), or walking her chorkie (the real boss of the house).

Cambria has written within the young adult and new adult genres, penning many paranormal and contemporary titles. Her favorite genre to read and write is romantic suspense. A few of her most recognized titles are: Text, Torch, Tryst, Masquerade, and Recalled.

Interview with Regina Wamba The Cover Queen

The Cover Queen.

Regina Wamba
Mae i design

I was lucky enough to score an interview with The Cover Queen herself.
There isn't much this beyond talented woman can't do. As I'm sure you
know, she does everything from covers, to one of a kind photo shoots, and
she had even tried her hand at children's books. Everything she touches
turns to gold. I think it's safe to say she has The Midas touch.
Sweet and understand Regina connects with her clients on another
level. Not only as an employer to employee, but as a friend.
Understanding exactly what they were looking for. Because we all
know when it comes to writing a book it takes blood, sweat and tear.
She doesn't need much to create a masterpiece. As stated in her interview,
"One word can change everything!"

Though I have only met Regina once, and believe me it was a quick encounter. I could
she was a genuine person. Happy to meet someone who appreciated her work.

*INTERVIEW*

1. How do you start making covers?

actually fell into it by my love of reading! I went on to goodreads and started talking with people… then trying to create my own covers based off what I read.. then started talking with people who were going to self publish!!

2. When you started out what was the most difficult thing to do?

oooh… good question. Probably just being able to find work. Self publishing wasn’t as trendy then as it is now… so even though it all worked out.. it can be hard to establish your name and brand and set that level of trust up for your clients and future clients.

3. Are you a reader? If so what kind of books do you like to read?

YES i am!! I love young adult paranormal romance so much. I love love love the magic and the romance. I love a Great and Terrible Beauty, Twilight, Under Different Stars, the Hunger Games, and MANY more… but those are some favorite YA books that I’ve loved. I do love a good NA or Adult book.. but YA has always held my heart. <3
4. Writing? no. HAHA. I’m not that great at writing. Though I have several covers that I have designed for publishing houses. :D

4. Would you are have you looked into writing for a publishing house?

Writing? no. HAHA. I’m not that great at writing. Though I have several covers that I have designed for publishing houses. :D

Hmmmm.. Talking with people, engaging with their ideas, and Facebook. I have gotten so much business and repeat business from Facebook.

5. What was the most vital marking tool you used to get you to where you are today?

Hmmmm.. Talking with people, engaging with their ideas, and Facebook. I have gotten so much business and repeat business from Facebook.

6. Has photography always been a passion?

Hmmmm… I suppose it has, I just didn’t realize it as much until some of my authors told me to jump in and see what I could do!

7.Who is your biggest inspiration?

My family. They inspire me everyday to keep reaching for the stars. I also love MANY different artists and photographers out there. So much talent… it’s amazing.

8.When you are making a cover or on a photo shoot what is the inspiration or epiphany  you get that helps you choose what direction you are headed in?

THAT varies widely. Usually I have a general intuitive idea of what I want the image or cover to look like…but anything could inspire me to twist it into something epic. It could be the models.. a pose, or an expression. It could be the music I’m listening to when I start designing… or just a word. ONE word could change everything. I often text words to myself because I find them inspirations. Words can evoke images… i think that is what is most powerful for me.

9. Besides custom covers and photos is there anything you are looking to add to the business?

I do a variety of different things.. I add in a lot of marketing materials and branding work…but I’ll be adding in SOOON mentoring for design, photography and both! So keep a peek out for that coming up!

10. What advice would you give to someone looking to get into your field of work?

PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Nothing will do you more good than to always work at your portfolio. And PLAY… make sure to find time to play. either a sketchbook, paint, reading, hanging out with family or making fake covers/manipulations. Do something for yourself.
